Billing, quotas & limits

Understand recipient usage, shared allowances, mailbox add-ons and plan changes.

Sending usage

Sending quotas count recipients, not API requests. A message sent to several recipients consumes several recipient units. GET /v1/usage returns the account's UTC calendar-month usage with a project breakdown.

Acceptance reserves quota. Definitive failures before submission and queued cancellations release their reservations. Test emails and mailbox replies or forwards use the same sending quota as other mail.

Free has a daily recipient cap. Paid plans have a monthly quota without a plan-level daily limit. Domain warm-up, rate limits, suppression and reputation controls still apply. Check pricing for current prices and allowances and Billing for your account's active subscription.

Inbox and image allowances

Mailbox slots, inbox storage and daily incoming-message allowances depend on the base plan. Inbox storage and daily intake are shared across the account's mailboxes. Image storage is a separate allowance; deleting images does not free inbox storage.

New mail is turned away when inbox storage is full. Review storage warnings and delete messages you no longer need. Stored messages do not automatically expire.

Additional mailboxes

Extra mailbox slots cost $1 each per month and are available on every plan, including Free. They use a separate subscription and do not increase shared inbox storage or daily incoming limits.

Confirm checkout or quantity changes in Billing. Extra capacity is granted from verified subscription state. Delete surplus mailboxes before reducing slot quantity. An external cancellation does not delete stored mail, but incoming acceptance follows the current allowance.

Plan changes and branding

Manage subscriptions and payment details in Billing. A past-due or cancelled base subscription falls back to the Free allowance. Active Growth and Scale subscriptions remove the SendPanda footer badge; Free and Starter outgoing mail includes it. The current subscription is checked when a queued message is delivered.

Handle quota errors

A 429 may indicate recipient quota or a rate limit. Inspect the error code and current usage before retrying. Repeated immediate retries do not increase quota. If overage is available, configure it explicitly in Billing; never assume it is enabled.
